How to calculate poker profit without mixing the wrong inputs
Poker profit calculation is not always just cash-out minus buy-in. Cash games, tournaments, rake, trip costs, and hourly rate need different treatment if you want the number to mean something.
- Cash profit starts with cash-out minus buy-in
- Tournament profit needs entries, re-entries, and prizes
- Hourly rate and rake-adjusted profit are separate calculations
Cash game profit calculation
For cash games, start with cash-out minus total buy-in. Keep reloads, currency, breaks, and rake settings separate so later review stays clean.
- Profit = cash-out - total buy-in
- Hourly rate = profit / real play hours
- Rake-adjusted hand profit is a separate calculation
Tournament profit calculation
Tournament results change depending on how entries, re-entries, prizes, and ticket value are counted. Keeping finish place and ITM beside the money makes long-term review clearer.
Trip costs should be separated first
If you mix travel cost directly into poker profit, it becomes harder to tell whether the issue was the game or the trip. Track poker results first, then review total trip profit separately.
